A lovely, Aesthetic Movement period (c.1880) Victorian pine washstand with its original marble top and a decorative tiled splashback. The tiles are a striking Aesthetic Movement pattern in deep red-brown on white, arranged as three panels across the back rail.
The back rail and towel-rail sides are shaped and scalloped, with a nice bit of movement to the profile rather than a plain straight cut. Single frieze drawer to the front with brass knob handles, standing on turned and tapered legs.
The pine has a wonderful mellow colour throughout, we have simply re-waxed it. The marble is in good original condition with light surface veining and the usual honest wear you'd expect from age.
A solid, characterful piece - would suit a bathroom, hallway, or bedroom as a wash surface or console table.
