A fantastic 19th century French pine chest of drawers of generous country house proportions, retaining a wonderfully rustic appearance and plenty of original character.
The chest features a classic two over two drawer arrangement, with particularly large and deep lower drawers providing excellent practical storage. It stands on its original plinth base and has developed a rich, tactile patina over many years of use, with remnants of its original painted finish still visible throughout.
The pine displays lovely colour and character, with attractive grain, wear and surface texture that can only be achieved through age. We have fitted new period-style wooden knobs in keeping with the piece and installed a tongue and groove boarded back, the original having been lost at some point during its life.
A solid and sturdy piece throughout, full of the charm associated with well-used country furniture. It displays age-related marks, knocks, scratches, old repairs, evidence of historic inactive woodworm and a small loss to the rear left-hand section of the plinth caused by historic woodworm activity. These imperfections are purely cosmetic and contribute to the authenticity and character of the piece.
